President Obama Speaks to students

This weekend has created a huge buzz about the President of the United States addressing students throughout the country with a message to stay in school and work hard. The White House and the Department of Education did not think that such an action would create a public uproar. Yet, it did. The reasons we will not get into today. However, PGCYD supports the message that the President is giving to our children. It is a message that tells children to stay in school and work hard. The address to the students will last all of 10 minutes and you can view a copy of the message at the White House website at http://www.whitehouse.gov/MediaResources/PreparedSchoolRemarks/.

The address will broadcast live on C-SPAN and CNN at 12 noon. We need to all encourage our children to work hard, take responsibility for their actions and their success and stay in school.

I think people need to respect the office of the President of the United States. In fact Laura Bush defended President Obama’s message to the students. http://www.cnn.com/2009/POLITICS/09/07/laura.bush/index.html. So on this day, I hope that the parents of children in the Prince George’s County School System will allow their children to be encouraged by the leader of our great country. It didn’t seem to be a problem when the first President George Bush did it so I don’t see why it is a problem now.
