By this notice, the Elections Committee announces the annual call for candidates to fill officer positions for 2012-2013 on the Prince George’s County Young Democrats (PGCYD) Executive Board. Elections will be held at the PGCYD General Body Meeting Tuesday, January 10, 2012 at 7pm.  The positions available in the 2012 election and their terms are as follows:

President (1 year term)

Vice President of Communications (1 year term)

Vice President of Membership (1 year term)

Treasurer (1 year term)

Secretary (1 year term)

Central Committeeman and Woman (1 year term)

Service in these positions is a wonderful way to gain exposure to the political process in Maryland and a fun way to be involved in the educational, planning and advocacy activities of the PGCYD.  If you would like to participate and stand for election to one of the above positions, please submit the following items:

(1) Complete a Declaration of Candidacy, as follows:  “I declare myself as a candidate for the office of ____________________. I also declare that I am an active PGCYD member in good standing. I request that my name be printed on the official ballot for election. Attached is a candidate photo and candidate statement which I authorize for use in the election process.” A declaration with original signature is required on Election Day.

(2) Prepare and transmit a Candidate Statement. The statement must be no more than 200 words in length including the candidate’s name, title, place of employment and a statement of why election to office is sought.  A statement in MS Word or via email is encouraged.

(3) Provide a Candidate Photo. A headshot in black and white or color of the candidate may be provided. Digital photos are encouraged. Photos will not be returned, and may be forwarded to the VP of Communications for possible use in the February 2012 edition of the Executive Committee Monthly Report introducing the new Executive Committee for 2012-2013.

The above application materials must be received by the Elections Committee no later than January 3, 2012.  An electronic copy of all the above is welcome, however, signed originals of the Declaration of Candidacy and the Letter of Support can be provided in hardcopy on election day January 10, 2012.
